- GST/HST registration
- Required once taxable sales pass $30,000 over four consecutive calendar quarters. Your registration number prints on the invoice so customers can claim input tax credits.
- PST on materials
- In BC, Manitoba and Saskatchewan, contractors installing materials into a home usually pay PST when they buy and do not charge it on the job.
- Licence
- Your provincial licence or certificate number prints on every quote. In Quebec, contractors also show their RBQ licence.
- Clearances
- General contractors often ask subtrades for a WSIB or WCB clearance certificate before they pay. Keep yours current.

Which sales tax do I charge in my province?
HST at 13% in Ontario, 14% in Nova Scotia and 15% in New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador and PEI. Elsewhere it is 5% GST, plus 9.975% QST in Quebec. In BC, Manitoba and Saskatchewan, PST usually applies to your materials at purchase rather than to the job.
Can I charge GST if I'm not registered?
No. If you are a small supplier and have not registered, you must not charge GST or HST. Switch tax off in the template until you register.
Is there a French version?
Not yet. The Canada edition is in English with Quebec's GST and QST built in.
