Plumbing estimate calculator
Labor, trip charge, parts markup and your state's sales tax in one place. Change any number and the estimate updates as you type.
How it works
- Labor = hours × people × hourly rate, plus any overtime or after-hours premium.
- Parts = your cost × (1 + markup). A 40% markup on $180 of parts is $252.
- Sales tax is charged on the parts only, unless you tick the box because your state taxes repair labor too.
- Each line is rounded to the cent before it is added up, the way an invoice shows it.
Sales tax on plumbing is set by your state, and often your county and city as well. Some states tax repair labor, many tax only the parts, and on a lot of real-property jobs the contractor pays tax on materials when buying them and charges none on the job. If you are not sure which applies to a job, ask your state's revenue department before you send the estimate.

Questions
Is this a flat-rate or a time-and-materials calculator?
It works out a time-and-materials price. Many shops use it to sanity-check a flat rate: enter the hours a task usually takes and compare the result with the price in your book.
Should I mark up parts?
Most service plumbers do, because parts carry warranty, trips to the supply house and returns. 30% to 100% is common on small parts and less on big items like water heaters. Pick a markup you can explain to the customer.
Does it save my numbers?
No. Nothing is stored or sent anywhere; the maths runs in your browser. Refresh and it goes back to the example.
