- Quebec adds 9.975% QST to most services. In BC, Saskatchewan and Manitoba, a painter on a home usually pays PST on paint and supplies and does not charge PST on the labour.
- Quebec licence
- Painting contractors in Quebec generally need an RBQ licence; the number goes on the contract.
- Workers' comp
- WSIB in Ontario, WorkSafeBC and the other provincial boards cover painting crews; include the premium in your rate.

Questions
How many litres of paint for a bedroom?
A 3.5 m by 4 m bedroom with 2.4 m walls has about 36 m² of wall. At roughly 10 m² per litre per coat, two coats take about 7 to 8 litres, so two 3.78 L cans.
Do I charge GST or HST on painting?
Yes, if you are registered: HST in the harmonized provinces, GST plus QST in Quebec, GST elsewhere.
Can I quote in square feet?
Yes. Switch the units and the sheet works in feet and US gallons instead.
Does it cover stain and decks?
